The words you speak to yourself become what you believe. Choose your words carefully.
Dear younger Raisa,
Hi there, I hope you're doing well. I know you've always hoped for a sign or signal from the future, so as I sit down to write this letter, I'm bursting with thoughts of our past and the road that has brought us to this point. I want you to understand that every step you take and each encounter you have is influencing who you will become. So pay great attention to what I have to say.
As I sit down to write this letter, I can't help but reflect on the journey that has brought me to where I am today. There are so many things I wish I could tell you, so many lessons I've learned along the way that could have saved you from unnecessary heartache and confusion. But then again, perhaps it's those very struggles that have shaped who I am now. Nonetheless, here I am, offering you some words of advice, some comfort, and perhaps a glimpse into the future.
My first bit of advice to you is to embrace your imperfections. I know how much you agonise over your flaws, both real and perceived. But let me tell you a secret: they're what make you unique. Embrace them, for they are the cracks through which the light shines in. Embracing your imperfections is like uncovering hidden gems within yourself. They're not blemishes to hide but rather unique marks that distinguish you from everyone else. Those quirks and flaws add depth and character to your being. When you embrace them, you not only accept yourself fully but also allow others to appreciate you for who you truly are. It's in those imperfections that your authenticity shines brightest, drawing others towards your genuine self.
I want you to know that you are enough. You don't have to change who you are to fit into someone else's mould. Accept your originality, eccentricities, and hobbies. Your path will be exceptional because of the things that distinguish you. Don't let others define you; just be yourself; you are amazing, and I want you to remember that constantly.
Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Life begins at the end of it, they say, and it's true. Some of your greatest adventures and achievements will come from taking risks and embracing the unknown. Taking risks is the leap of faith that propels you forward in life. Stepping beyond your comfort zone opens up a world of possibilities and opportunities you might never have imagined otherwise. It's in those moments of uncertainty and challenge that you discover your true strength and resilience. Each risk taken is a step towards growth and self-discovery, leading to some of your most remarkable achievements and experiences.
You'll meet so many people on your journey, some of whom will become lifelong friends, others passing ships in the night. Cherish them all. Invest in your relationships, for they are the true treasures of life. Relationships are the heartbeats of your journey through life. Every person you meet leaves a mark on your soul, whether they stay for a season or a lifetime. Friendships will come and go, and that is okay. Some individuals will stick with you for the rest of your life, while others will teach you significant lessons in a short period of time. Cherish the connections you build, but don't cling to negative relationships out of fear of being alone. Surround yourself with individuals who will encourage and support you.
Cherishing those connections, nurturing them with care and attention, enriches your life in ways nothing else can. Each relationship, no matter how brief, adds depth and meaning to your existence, reminding you of the beauty of human connection.
Love is a power that exists beyond time and space, a language spoken by the heart. It's about more than simply romantic relationships; it also includes the links you form with family, friends, and even strangers. Love is the glue that binds people together, the light that shines in even the darkest corners of the planet.
In things of the heart, proceed with caution but also with boldness. Love is a wonderful and enigmatic journey full of twists and turns, highs and lows. Embrace it wholeheartedly, understanding that every connection, whether transient or long-lasting, has something to teach you about yourself and the world around you.
Remember that love is about finding someone who complements you, not someone to complete you. Look for a partner that shares your beliefs, appreciates your goals, and encourages you to develop. Someone who sees you not only as you are, but as you want to be. But understand that love is not always simple. It involves patience, forgiveness, and, most importantly, communication. Learn to listen as much as you talk, and comprehend as much as you are understood. Be willing to compromise, to meet halfway, and to face the storms together.
And when it comes to issues of the heart, follow your instincts. Your intuition will take you to individuals who deserve your love and commitment. Know when to leave unhealthy relationships that sap your spirit and dull your brightness.
You have a deep intuition that often gets drowned out by the noise of the world. Learn to listen to it, for it will guide you true. Trusting your instincts is like tapping into an ancient wisdom buried deep within your soul. Amidst the chaos of the world, your intuition serves as a guiding light, leading you towards your true purpose and desires. Learning to listen to that inner voice, to trust its guidance, empowers you to make decisions aligned with your authentic self. It's in those moments of stillness and introspection that you find clarity and direction in life's journey.
You will fail. Repeatedly. But each failure is not a stop sign, but rather a stepping stone on the path to success. Embrace failure as a teacher, not an enemy. Each setback, each stumble, is an opportunity to learn and evolve. Embracing failure with humility and resilience transforms it from a source of fear into a powerful teacher. It teaches you invaluable lessons, strengthens your resolve, and fuels your determination to persevere towards your goals.
In the darkest of times, there is always something to be thankful for. Cultivate a spirit of gratitude, for it will sustain you through even the toughest of trials. Practicing gratitude is the key to finding joy and contentment in every moment, no matter how challenging. Even in the darkest of times, there is always something to be thankful for—a glimmer of hope, a moment of kindness, a lesson learned. Cultivating a spirit of gratitude shifts your perspective from scarcity to abundance, from despair to hope. It fills your heart with appreciation for the beauty and blessings that surround you, even in the midst of adversity.
You are your own worst critic, but you are also your greatest ally. Treat yourself with the same kindness and compassion you show to others. Being kind to yourself is an act of self-love and compassion that nourishes your mind, body, and soul. You are deserving of the same care and kindness you so freely give to others. Treating yourself with gentleness and understanding cultivates a deep sense of self-acceptance and inner peace. It allows you to embrace your humanity, with all its flaws and imperfections, knowing that you are worthy of love and belonging just as you are.
So, my dear younger self, as you embark on this journey called life, remember these words. They may not shield you from pain or hardship, but they will serve as a guiding light in the darkness. And know that, despite the challenges ahead, you are stronger, braver, and more resilient than you could ever imagine.
With love and hope,
Your older, wiser self.
